the pavement. our delia goncalves is live at the navy yard station with the story. kind of a chilly night for a walk home, delia. >> reporter: and folks walked several miles home. they said it was a better way to get home because the shuttle buses, well, there just weren't enough of them. so a lot of them just trekked in the cold several miles to their homes. and it took several hours. the problem started here at navy yard. two metro green line trains did not get to their destination. and it took them two hours to get there. it was a terrible commute for those passengers. and they took pictures and tweeted out those pictures and sent messages of those massive crowds after folks pried open the metro doors to escape through an emergency exit. they took to walking on the tracks after sitting in a hot, dark train stuck in a tunnel between navy yard and anacostia for hours. metro says the problem started with an electrical fire but proper protocol was not followed. >> it was hot and people was passing out. someone opened the emergency exit. we jumped out into the -- through the rails and ran t

. >> now an apology from metro's general manager. delia goncalves is live at navy yard with more on what went wrong and how they're hoping to move forward from this. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning. it was a failure to communicate simply. that's what it boils down to. a problem that could have been fixed fairly quickly took two hours to address and sent lots of people out here flooding the streets outside of navy yard station. a lot of them actually walked home that night. passengers tweeted out pictures of wednesday night's event. it happened around 5:00 in the evening. two green line trains got stuck in opportunity hims between navy yard and anacostia stations. metro says the problem started with a fire in an insulator that keeps power in the third track from energizing the other two. an employee cut off the power to address the problem but that employee never told anyone else. >> it was hot and people were passing out. someone opened the emergency exit. we ran to the nearest emergency excite. >> that kind of communication, we would have recovered faster. we'll look at t

a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the sister called the police. police put out an all points bulletin and tracked ralph, the suspect to his own house. now, the home was ringed, according to what one police lieutenant told me, with at least a dozen police officers. they trie

a 25-year-old iraq war vet allegedly killed former navy s.e.a.l. sniper chris kyle and another man at a gun range in texas over weekend. eddie ray ralph was arrested on two counts of capital murder. joe, this morning where do things stand with this investigation? >> john, behind me is where eddie ray ralph is being held on $3 million bond. it's still early in the investigation. authorities still trying to figure out what happened at that shooting range and why. >> former navy s.e.a.l. chris kyle who claimed a record 150 kills in iraq died at the hands of another vet, authorities say, allegedly using a semiautomatic handgun. what police don't know yet is why. >> i don't know that we'll ever know. he's the only one that knows that. but at this point he hasn't made any comments to law enforcement as to why he did it. >> they all drove together in a pickup truck, authorities say. less than two hours later, kyle and littlefield were dead. ralph had fled to his sister's house. he told her what happened. she called police. and ralph was eventually caught. ralph is an iraq war veteran. he
